Decubitus Ulcer / Pressure Sore Lawyer

Decubitus ulcers are another name for pressure sores or bed sores. Decubitus ulcers is caused by continual, unrelieved pressure on one part of the body usually the hip, buttock, tailbone, heels, hip or ankle. The decubitus ulcers often happen to residents of nursing home do not receive the adequate care and are not attended to on a regular basis.  

According to most medical experts, in order to prevent decubitus ulcers it is recommended to change, flip or roll over the patient's position at least every two hours. In cases the decubitus ulcers or pressure sore have already started, it is essential to the healing process to have any pressure removed from the affected areas. Decubitus ulcers are painful and uncomfortable and when pressure sores / decubitus ulcers worsen and do not heal, flap surgeries and skin grafts are necessary to close the open sore and help prevent the area from getting infected.

Stages of Decubitus Ulcers

Stage 1 Decubitus Ulcer.

Stage 2 Decubitus Ulcer.

 When a patient has a stage 2 decubitus ulcer, one will notice skin breakdown and partial skin loss. It will look like an abrasion, blister or shallow crater. Stage 3 & 4  Decubitus Ulcers. 

When a patient has a stage 3 or stage 4 decubitus ulcer, one will notice the skin is broken down and there is extensive destruction or damage to the underlying muscle, bone or supporting structures. Ulcers are extremely difficult to heal and may take many months for complete repair. Preventing the development of an decubitus ulcer should be considered seriously.
